I’ve been really into trying different lipstick formulas lately and I wanted to share with you some of my favorite formulas! If you haven’t tried these yet, you should!
1. Revlon Lip Butter (around $7-8 ea. at Drugstores)
These super creamy lipsticks pack a lot of moisture and a lot of pigment. There are also a lot of really nice colors that would look good on just about anyone. I have almost all of these guys and whenever more are released I’m sure I’ll scoop them up too. My favorites are Berry Smoothie, Pink Truffle, and Juicy Papaya.
2. NYX Round Lipstick ($4, Cherry Culture)
These little babies used to only run you a buck each, but even at $4 they’re still a great deal. The line is huge – there are a ton of shades. They’re all very creamy, downright slick in some cases, and very pigmented. They range from cream to satin to shimmer in finish. If I had to point out one downside it would be that they smell kind of strange, but it’s nothing too bothersome. My favorite shades are Paris, Femme, and Peach Bellini.
3. Em Cosmetics Classic Lipstick ($16.50, Em Cosmetics)
I was so excited to try this new line developed by Michelle Phan. I’m pleased to say this lipstick is awesome! I love how creamy it feels. The pigmentation is great too. I’ve only tried one shade, but I’d definitely try more. I also really like the pretty white packaging! The shade I have (and do recommend!) is Cuddle Up Pink.
4. MAC Lipstick (all formulas) ($15.00, MAC Cosmetics)
Everyone should try the different MAC formulas at least once. The sheer number of shades and variety of formulas, not to mention MAC’s cult status as a brand – all lead to it belonging on a makeup lover’s bucket list. My favorite formulas are Cremesheen and Amplified Cream. My least favorite is Dazzle – they’re full of chunky gritty glitter! My favorite MAC lipstick shades could fill an entire blog post. Hmm…that’s not a bad idea. ;)
5. Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick ($18.00, Bare Minerals)
In addition to a dozen beautifully pigmented and fashion-forward shades, the Marvelous Moxie lipsticks also have some of the coolest packaging I’ve ever seen – a sliding click tube. I have a couple shade recommendations – a light nude called Be Free and a bright coral called Light It Up.
6. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick ($22, Urban Decay)
When Urban Decay created these new lipsticks they did NOT mess around. Beautiful colors, fabulous formula, and massive staying power. There’s a reason they call them the revolution! Honestly, any shade will treat you well. You can’t go wrong. They’re all stunning.
7. NARS Satin Lip Pencil ($25, NARS)
I’ve been a huge fan of these since they first launched. So much so that I didn’t just buy 1 at first – I got 4. Sometimes you just know something is going to be good. That’s how I felt about NARS Satin Lip Pencils, and let me tell you I wasn’t wrong. These are lightweight, pigmented, and non-drying. The pencil format makes them easy to apply, which is a must for vampy shades and bright shades alike. My favorite Satin Lip Pencil is Palais Royal. Don’t let the dark color fool you – it’s glorious. Give it a go!
8. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar ($18.00, OCC)
How could any list of lipstick formulas be complete without mentioning the OCC Lip Tar? So popular it can easily be said to have achieved cult status. These liquid lipsticks are a must-try. The application can be a little tricky since they’re so highly concentrated, but the pigments and colors are so worth it. Then there’s the long wear time and the added benefit of being able to mix colors and you have an ideal lip product! As for shade recommendations…try them all! Enjoy.
9. Gorgeous Cosmetics Lipstick ($25.00, Gorgeous Cosmetics)
There isn’t a whole lot of buzz about this Aussie brand in the blogosphere, so I wanted to make a point to share these as much as I can. They’re a really smooth and comfortable formula. Give these a try if you’re interested in trying a really luxurious new lipstick! I recommend the shade Pink Flip.
10. Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick ($30.00, Sephora)
I think every girl should treat herself to something luxurious at least once. And if you’re going to treat yourself, one option I recommend is these beauties from Hourglass. The packaging is ultra luxe and the lipsticks are like buttah! I also appreciate the way the bullet is shaped (flat on 2 sides) – it’s easy to apply. I have the shade Fable, but if I had the dough I’d have them all.
I love MAC and Revlons lip butter formulas.
