Hi! So. It’s May. *insert comment about how April flew by, I can’t believe it’s May, etc.* That means it’s time for another favorites post, which I try to do on a semi-regular basis. ;) You might also be asking yourself why there is a picture of a cat on here. And um, why not? I take any opportunity to put up pictures of adorable fluffy kitties. That one looks particularly like our dearly departed Sombra, who passed last year. I miss her very much, so the picture made me smile.
Hair
I can pretty much say my favorite hair product of the past few months has been ouchless hair ties – you know, that don’t have the metal clips that can pull your hair out. I buy the black skinny ones in bulk and they’re all over the house. You can get them at any drugstore super cheap. I believe Scunci makes the ones I have…or maybe it’s Goody. Or both. I have several packs, so it’s probably both. It’s warm in so-cal and that means semi-constant ponytail time! Yay! That and I can actually put all of my hair in a ponytail for the first time in ages, so I’m enjoying it. Before I just kinda had a pony “nubbin”. Now it’s a full blown tail. Yee-haw.
As far as actual hair products go, the product I’ve been most enamored with is by far the Olivia Garden hair brush I reviewed previously. I use it every single day and it’s just great. No static, and it’s gentle. And I just love the design and look/feel of the brush in my hand. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention again the Suave detangler for kids. It just smells so good and performs so well.
Makeup
I haven’t had a chance to review these products yet, but lately I’ve been using a bunch of new goodies from It Cosmetics that I love. I’ll be reviewing eye shadow trios, eye brow stuff, a powder, and a brush all soon. In the meantime, if you have tried It Cosmetics too, what do you think?
I’ve also found myself becoming ever-increasingly in love with the new Tarte illuminating serum. My skin is doing interesting things lately. Over the past year or so it has flip-flopped from really oily to more dry/combo. I’m having to re-learn how to get the most out of skin care and foundation, etc. This product not only makes my skin happier, it makes my foundation look better. On days when I’m just running around doing errands I’ll wear it by itself, too.
Nails
I know I haven’t had a chance to do swatches of them yet, but go check out Zoya‘s summer offerings. They are GORGEOUS. I also love the mattes. I’m really late to the matte nail polish party but they are so bright and FUN! Lolli is my favorite.
And of course, the China Glaze Island Escape collection too! Such gorgeous bright shimmery shades. I have been loving them. Senorita Bonita is so beautiful you need to see it to believe it. Actually, they all are. Just get the set.
Skin
I haven’t tried anything lately that really blew my mind as far as skin care goes (I’m hoping the new moisturizers from The Body Shop I just got will do that – fingers crossed!). But I’m still using the heck out of and loving my Caudalie foaming cleanser. I’ve been using it with my Clarisonic.
So those have been my favorites / most grabbed for items in the month of April. What were yours?
I also wanted to start mentioning when I finish off products, too! Just because it’s fun.
This past month I finished up a bottle of Make Up For Ever HD foundation (and I don’t need to repurchase it yet as I have another one to start using already, hehe), and finished my LeAine Dehmer moisturizer. I won’t be repurchasing the moisturizer even though it’s earth-shatteringly good, because it’s super expensive! It’s $56 and I can’t afford it.
I also threw out a much overdue Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash mascara. I have such a hard time throwing away high end mascaras even when they get really old. I’m not sure if I’d repurchase that one. It didn’t wow me as the formula was pretty dry and kinda flaked a little towards the end there. Thinking maybe I got an old tube to begin with. I have some other mascaras that probably need to be tossed but I just hate doing it. So then they sit in my drawer because I know they’re too old to use. I have problems, lol.
And last but not least, I think I’m finally ready to retire my MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural powder, as it’s gotten to the point where there’s only product around the outer ring of the pan and it’s a pain in the ass to use like that. Plus, it crumbles! Back 2 MAC time!
