Skincare Sorcery – Avene Cleanance Skin Care

About a month and a half – ish ago I started experiencing some breakouts. And not just little bitty ones… I had probably one of the biggest zits I’ve ever experienced. One of those gnarly mother-effers that is under the skin, huge, painful, virtually impossible to cover… you know the ones I mean!

And basically, all of my gathered knowledge of what to do and what to use went out the f’ing window. NOTHING I knew to do seemed to have any effect. I was still experiencing tons of clogged pores, tiny little breakouts, and then Mt. Vesuvius that would just not go away. But unlike many acne breakout sufferers, my skin wasn’t the least bit oily. In fact, it was even more dry than ever before. I was at a loss as to how to treat this combination of issues. All of the heavy moisturizers seemed to aggravate my breakouts and the treatments for the breakouts made my skin even more dry. And if there’s anything harder to cover than a massive breakout, it’s a massive and flaky breakout. Eww!

Avene answered my call for help and offered to send some stuff to try out. Now, I tried these products completely reluctantly because they’re technically not for my skin type at all, but I was desperate for a solution and pretty much figured it couldn’t get any worse…

spockThis is completely illogical.

The cleanser I have been loving lately is Avene Cleanance Gel Soapless Cleanser, which promises a deep cleanse without stripping the skin or upsetting its pH. It advertises itself as for oily, blemish-prone skin so I naturally assumed it would dry out my skin anyway. But then this crazy thing happened. It didn’t. In fact, it’s quite soothing, and my face did feel cleansed without being stripped. I’ve even double-cleansed (wearing heavy makeup) and my skin still felt fine.

The moisturizer I’ve been using along with the gel cleanser is the Cleanance Emulsion Lotion. This stuff is the bomb diggity. It feels amazing on my skin. It’s so lightweight I thought absolutely no way will this moisturize enough, but then it DID. It totally did. I’m obsessed! Again this is formulated for oily, blemish-prone skin. So there’s no reason why it should work. But it does.

I am confused, but also delighted.
