I haven’t mentioned Julep in a little while on the blog, but I’ve still been getting my monthly Julep Maven boxes almost every month.
For this manicure, I let Mr. Boyfriend choose. I was feeling grouchy and indecisive but wanted pretty nails. I’d already picked a color, changed my mind, and removed the whole manicure once. He picked out Julep Melanie. Melanie was released with the August Maven collection:
Since Melanie was actually one of my untrieds, I was happy he picked something new (to me) and went to work. I love metallic nails I think they are gorgeous. In fact, I even really like another Julep metallic I’ve tried – Maria (a pale rose pink metallic). But Melanie was kind of a bitch. I had a lot of issues with brushstrokes making it look streaky. Bleh! I finally got it to look MOSTLY decent, but wasn’t 100% satisfied.
For my cuticles’ sake I didn’t want to start over completely. I remembered I have a bottle of not oft used Essie Matte About You top coat and thought “what the heck?”.
MAGIC. You can see virtually no brush strokes anymore. The texture is still a little “rough” looking, but it feels silky smooth and looks really cool.
I’m delighted. I can’t wait to try using matte topcoat over all my metallic polishes!
As an aside, if you still haven’t tried Julep you can get your first box for only a penny by using the code “PENNY” at checkout. I’d appreciate it if you could use my referral link, but if you don’t want to I won’t hold it against you. Much. ;) haha.
I really like Julep as a company and as a product. The Maven program is still my favorite monthly subscription and one of only 2 I use (the other is Beauty Army). I think the products are very high quality and they put a lot of thought and care into curating their monthly boxes. Additionally, we can add “add-on” products at a very reduced price if we can’t decide, or switch to a different style whenever we want. You can also skip a month or have your month’s box sent to someone else! Flexibility = awesome.
So what nail looks have you been loving lately???
Matte is in, Gloss is out. But I still love colorful nails though. How many layers do you use in adding matte nail polish on your nails? I try to keep it as thin as possible compared to my other glossy nail polish.
