I feel kind of bad because I’ve had this trio sitting around for weeks waiting to be reviewed. Oops. This RAW Minerals trio came as part of my most recent Beauty Fix kit. If you’re not familiar with Beauty Fix, it’s a nifty program where you pay a fee (I think it’s around $50) and they send you a cute traincase filled with goodies to try out. There’s more to the program, but go to the BF website to check it out. :)
Anyway…these eyeshadows come in sets of 3. The trio I received is called Sahara, and it consists of 3 colors:
Sand – Peachy medium light brown with lots of shimmer.
Camel – Warm medium chestnutty brown (more of a satin finish)
Spice – Warm golden medium brown (more satin finish than shimmer).
These colors are a lot warmer than I’d usually pick for myself when I swatch them, but when I apply them to my eyes and blend they aren’t quite so harshly warm against my very cool-toned features. The three colors complement each other very well; I hate when trios/quads/etc. don’t seem to “go” (*cough* MAC Tempting palette *cough*).
The colors are somewhat sheer when initially applied, but they are buildable. I like that, because sometimes with really pigmented loose shadows it’s hard to get much control and you end up doing a much darker or brighter look than you intended. I don’t think anyone will have that problem with these. They also blend really really well and are lovely to work with, so I’m a fan of the formula. I test-ran them without any primer and they did not crease until I’d had them on for several hours, which is pretty good for my oily lids. This is because they are formulated with silk powder, which naturally helps control oil. They also contain soybean oil, which reduces redness and calms the skin. Pretty nifty.
Each shadow is .57 g and the shades are not sold separately. They’re sort of pricey at $35 a trio, but they are really nice if you were interested in trying them. If you are cooler toned I’d suggest the trio in Arctic or Nicoya as more flattering choices than this one.
