September Favorites

Following in my tradition of posting random awesome pictures on my monthly favorites posts, this month features Obama riding on a unicorn shooting rainbows out of his hands. Seemed pretty legit. Thanks, internet!

September meant lots more driving almost 4 hours every day to and from my jobby job in the Beverly Hills area. It takes me roughly an hour and 45 minutes, sometimes longer for each way – hence the 4 hours. So because of that, I had to leave the house pretty early, get up even earlier, and spend as little time as possible on my face so that I can do more time sleeping. All that driving is exhausting in LA traffic, so that last part is super important!

These are the products that have gotten the most love from me over the past month!

For face, I’ve had a simple routine that has gotten me through the morning in a hurry:

  • Jouer Illuminating Moisture Tint in Pearl all over to even out skin tone & provide SPF.
  • Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer + Dark Circle Treatment in Brightener under eyes (love this! practically blends itself).
  • OCC Skin Concealer in Y0 on any spots/red areas.
  • Lipsy Aphrodite powder very lightly through the t-zone to stop any midday shine.
  • NARS blush in Luster continues to be a major staple in my fast routine because I can throw it on with anything and it brightens my whole face with its gorgeous golden sheen.
  • Other times I reached for Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in 24 Kt and used it on my cheeks as well as my eyes.

For lips, I had a couple things that were total lifesavers:

  • Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me is a perfect translucent pink flush and pretty moisturizing. Love the really fake candy cherry scent too haha.
  • Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie doesn’t really scream ‘berry’ to me at all, but is a very natural looking reddish pink. It’s more creamy and less slick than the Baby Lips so it lasts much longer, and the pigment is great too.
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Precious made a strong showing toward the end of the month. It’s been a permanent staple in my bag just like the other 2 I mentioned. I pretty much rotated these 3 lip products all month.

And finally for my eyes, I kept things pretty simple most days. My major staples & definite favorites for the month were:

  • Maybelline The RocketClinique Bottom Lash mascaras used together – which I mentioned in The Monday Mash-Up.
  • Burberry Eye Shadow in Rosewood is a new addition to my stash that I’m loving. It’s a taupe – what more can I say?
  • Avon Cream Eye Shadow in Winter Taupe – again, pretty much goes without saying I’m going to love it since it’s a taupe. I wore this a lot with the Burberry shadow. This pairing will be featured in an upcoming Monday Mash-Up I’m sure.

I didn’t do much with my nails in September. In fact, they’ve been naked for about a week! But I did try out my first Nubar polish in Hot Pink which is a matte neon. It takes some coats to be opaque (I think I put on 3 and still had some VNL), but unlike other neons it wore like IRON. I was very impressed.

That pretty much does it for my beauty favorites! Now for my non-beauty favorites…

MUSIC: My Against Me! Pandora station also got me through a lot of that traffic. I’ve been curating and enjoying a mix that includes Against Me!, Bouncing Souls, Rise Against, Bad Religion, Rancid, and Anti-Flag among others. If that sounds fun get at me and I’ll share the station with you! Just stick your email in a comment.

FOOD & DRINKS: Drink-wise I am totally obsessed with all things PEACH these days. My 2 favs are White Cran Peach juice (I just get the generic store brand but I think it’s Ocean Spray) and Minute Maid Peach juice. I also really enjoy Crystal Light peach iced tea. So…YAY peaches. My favorite snacks have been extra sharp cheddar cheese (sometimes with saltines) or Nathan’s whole dill pickles. I don’t even want to tell you how many jars of pickles we’ve gone through in the last few months. I’ve always been a pickle fiend but the craving has been even stronger lately!

TV SHOWS: Can I just say HOORAY for the Breaking Bad finale? I was really disappointed with the Dexter finale (as a lot of you were, I know!) and I was really happy to see that BB actually had a good finale.

But what show I was really obsessed with in September is House of Cards on Netflix! It’s a Netflix original series starring Kevin Spacey as a congressman. The show is so good. I can’t wait til next year when season 2 is available. If you’re a “film nerd” and things like cinematography and staging grab your attention, I think you’ll really like House of Cards from that aspect. I don’t normally notice stuff like that but I swear every scene in House of Cards is perfect. It’s all beautifully shot and visually engaging at every turn. It doesn’t even have to be, because it’s a political drama so most of the drama is in the dialogue vs. the actual scenes. And all I can say is WATCH IT if you can.

So those were MY favorites…what were yours??
