MAC Tres Cheek Collection

The MAC Tres Cheek collection (super cute name by the way!) is a simple launch. It’s just 6 limited edition (duh) blushes. Nothing more. And I LIKE that. No gimmicks or bullshit, just some PRETTY BLUSHES! :)
The collection launches next week officially, but it’s already up for MAC Pro members to purchase, so if you’re fortunate enough to live near a pro store you might want to call and see if they have it in.
The colors are (starting at top left)…
Pink Tea – Pink-beige.
Immortal Flower – Bright peach.
Full of Joy – Lavender.
Lovecloud – Bright mid-tone pink.
Modern Mandarin – Red orange.
Peony Petal – Bright blue pink.
All of these are satins except Full of Joy, which is a frost. I’ve been told Lovecloud actually leans a little peachy. Darker skintones will probably want to avoid Pink Tea and Full of Joy as they will possibly read as a bit ashy on darker skin. Please, please, please check  out Modern Mandarin if you have dark skin. Orange blush can look amazing on anyone but it’s especially stunning on darker complexions. They will be online and at MAC stores/counters, and retail for $20 each.
Yes, I already placed an order… O:) I snatched up Modern Mandarin, Immortal Flower, and Full of Joy. I was tempted to grab Lovecloud and Pink Tea, but I was trying to be good because there’s so many great things coming out from MAC in the near future. I thought the three I picked would be the most unique to my stash. Peony Petal doesn’t speak to me because I prefer softer pinks since I’m so pale, and also being so so so cool-toned I actually like to wear more neutral blushes or even warm pinks. Whatevs. Personal preference.
I’m pretty sure these blushes are all going to fly off the shelves. Will you be purchasing anything from the Tres Cheek collection?

Urban Decay Mystery Token

I and a bunch of fellow beauty bloggers and vloggers received these mysterious tokens in the mail today from Urban Decay. To me they look like eye shadow compacts (what you can’t see is they flip open just like a MAC pot, but these don’t have a bottom.
If you’ve been on Twitter, you’ve probably seen the hashtag #UD68 floating around. On the inside of the box my token came in was this cryptic message:
“We’re about to blow your mind. Tweet us a photo of your token for more deets. #UD68”
Alright, I’ll bite. I tweeted my photo (the same one as above). I’m pretty sure it has to do with eye shadows, given this little token compact. But what does the 68 mean? 68 new eye shadows? That seems like uh, a lot. What’s going on?
What do you think the mystery is?
I’ll update when all is revealed!

Coming Soon: The Makeup Show LA

It’s only a little over a month away, so I don’t think it’s too soon to tell you all how excited I am to go to The Makeup Show LA this year! TMSLA is the largest pro-only show of its kind in LA, and features exhibitors and education from some of the top pros of the industry.
It’s a great opportunity to have all these great pro-driven brands under one roof! I’m definitely going to be hitting up Make Up For Ever, Inglot, & Crown Brush, stocking up at Embryolisse, and checking out any brands that I’m not familiar with.
One of those that I’m not familiar with, but definitely curious about is Biobliss. They claim to have an anti-wrinkle treatment that is toxin-free and produces results in under an hour. I don’t have a huge concern with wrinkles, but a claim like that got my attention! And there’s also Michael Marcus cosmetics, a line I haven’t had the pleasure of playing with before either. Sometimes there are brands I’ve only seen online that I finally get to experience in person, like the makeup bags from Kim Greene, or the mink eyelashes by Velour. I’ve seen them on Youtube, but never in person! I’ll also be looking in at LashX, a brand that does mink lash extensions and has an interesting cleanser to go along with them (removes makeup without damaging the bonds of the extensions). By the way, both LashX and Velour lashes are cruelty free. LashX’s are synthetic mink, and Velour’s lashes are made from mink from live animals (the hairs are brushed and then sterilized). By the way, how cool would it be to have your job be just to hang out and brush little minks all day? They’re actually really cute. They look kinda like ferrets.
Mink! Awww.
It might sound silly but I’m really excited that Kiss is going to be there as well. I’ve seen SO many blog posts and youtube videos featuring their nail decals and I can never find them in my drugstores. So for completely selfish reasons I’m excited they’ll be there. Perhaps I can stock up on goodies, and find out first-hand what stores in OC should have the adorable holiday creations Kiss releases every year. Also, T3 Micro will have a booth there and I hope (fingers crossed!) they’re doing demos with their products. I love my T3 hair dryer, but I’m always looking for tips on how to use it. What better place to learn than from T3 themselves?
If you are reading this and thinking “omg! I wanna go!”, well you can. However, this is a pro-only event so you will have to have credentials (students can also attend). For more info about what qualifies, how much tickets are, etc. check this page. Local 706 Union members get in free w/ union card.
Hope to see you at the show! Let me know if you’re going too.

Madonna Launches First Fragrance

Partnering with Coty, Madonna will be launching her first fragrance! With so many celeb fragrances out there, I kind of wonder what took her so long. The fragrance, called Truth or Dare by Madonna, will launch in April 2012 at Macy’s, and then everywhere else in May. Truth or Dare is described as floral, balanced with woods and vanilla. It was aimed that the fragrance represent the duality of the name by balancing dark and light, or something. I just want to know if it smells good, and comes in a pretty bottle. Well, I can answer one of those questions for you now:

Not bad. Not the most beautiful bottle I’ve ever seen, but at least it doesn’t look like an 80’s alcoholic beverage (ahem– Rihanna). I think it represents the name of the fragrance well. Apparently this is only the first we’ll see of the new Truth or Dare lifestyle brand. When you know what a “lifestyle brand” is, let me know.

Note, International launch is at select locations only.
Limited Edition

Highlighter: In The Abstract – $38.00 USD / $46.00 CDN
Soft pink base with yellow gold lines and lavender and midtone pink dots.

Bronzer: Optical Bronzer – $38.00 USD / $46.00 CDN
Bronze with gold pearl and neon pink with gold pearl.
While this collection is certainly pretty to look at, I can’t see myself shelling out $38 a pop for a powder that is too pretty to want to use it. ;) The colors of the highlighter and bronzer do appeal to me though. I’m not wild about the eye shadow palette, but that’s just because the colors aren’t really for me. What do you think of the collection? Will you be adding any of these to your stash?

MAC Matchmaster Foundation Info

Far be it from MAC to ever do fall launches in moderation, September also sees the introduction of MAC’s newest foundation – Matchmaster SPF 15. This seems truly unlike anything else in the MAC foundation family, and it’s clear that they agree. They even broke away from their traditional foundation nomenclature of NW or NC and a number (or sometimes just N, or sometimes just C!) to make things easier for both artist and consumer alike all around the globe. Anyone else thinking “yes yes finally!” ?
So what’s the deal with MAC Matchmaster SPF 15? Here’s how MAC describes their new brainchild:
  • New foundation technology utilizing translucent pigments for the best possible match.
  • Broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) SPF 15 protection.
  • Moisturizing demi-matte finish.
  • Line-reducing soft focus powders.
  • Reduces excess oil.
  • Medium buildable coverage.
Sounds pretty awesome right? MAC’s goal with this foundation was to create one that would give coverage without looking ashy or chalky due to mismatched tones. Each shade goes darker in depth as the numbers get bigger, but the translucent pigments allow these colors to be undertone-neutral, letting the wearers natural undertones show through for the best possible match. This foundation is more than 2 years in the making, responding to the call from artists for a foundation that would look more lifelike while still offering maximum coverage. How does this new technology work? Here it is in their words:

In traditional high coverage foundations, Iron Oxide and Titanium Dioxide pigments create skin tone using a mix of red, yellow, white and black pigments. When light hits the surface of these pigments they reflect and produce opacity and shade tonality based on the specific ratio of pigments used to create each shade. Often times the result is masky, dull and/or ashy depending on the wearer’s skin undertone and depth level.
Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15 utilizes patented pigment technology of clear acrylate spheres that encapsulate micro-fine Iron Oxide and Titanium Dioxide pigments. When light hits the surface of these spheres, it enters and refracts pulling the natural skin undertone into the mix of micro fine pigments so that the eye sees a more natural, true-to-life look. In Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15, we combine a proprietary blend of our patented pigment technology along with traditional pigments to give the most vibrant, natural shade, while still providing medium buildable coverage to perfect the look of skin and minimize flaws and skin imperfections.

Exciting for me personally is that this foundation is said to come in MAC’s lightest and darkest shades. As a practically card-holding member of the pasty white club, that is exciting news!

MAC Matchmaster SPF 15 launches on Sept 22 in North America and will retail for $32.50. I know I can’t wait to rush in and try on shade 1.0 to see if it matches me!

Available Shades:

1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.5, 10.0.

I like this nomenclature much better. For example if they discover a need for a shade between 2.0 and 3.0 they could easily insert a 2.5! However, the neutrality of the colors does tend to make them more forgiving and more versatile – two people who aren’t exactly the same skintone but are perhaps the same depth can wear the same shade. I’m very excited for this launch. Are you?

MAC Posh Paradise Official Info

A couple of weeks ago I gave you preliminary info on the MAC Posh Paradise collection. I now have official info and pictures to share! I gotta say I am not really loving the visual with this collection (above). I think the fact that her dress looks like it has worms or something is freaking me out…
But hey, new paint pots!
MAC Posh Paradise Collection

Pure Creation – mid-tone frosty blue
Imaginary – blackened navy
Nail Lacquer – $15.00 US/$18.00 CDN
Immortal Gold – pale gold
Rain of Flowers – blackened violet with violet shimmer (Repromote)
As a lover of paint pots I’m excited for this launch. I also am a fan of mattenes. If you’re balking at the idea of a matte lipstick, keep in mind these are semi-matte. They’re matte enough to still be called matte but not enough that you look dried out and dead. However, they are packed with pigment! Not for the faint of heart in the brighter shades. Is anyone else delighted at the lack of repromotes (with the exception of Rain of Flowers lacquer)? Personally, I think both lacquers can be skipped. There are loads of pale golds and violet shades out there, and the MAC formula generally isn’t worth the $15.00. But the rest of the collection sounds lovely! As usual, this collection is limited edition. It’s available through November 10th.

MAC Posh Paradise Preliminary Info

Please note this is preliminary collection info. I do not have official images yet, and all of this is subject to change! Information from Emily via Temptalia.

  • Rain of Flowers – blackened violet w/ violet pearlized pigments (Frost) – repromote
Hmm, this collection sounds interesting. Mattene lipsticks, when you give them a chance are actually really, really nice. Most of them aren’t 100% dry as the desert matte, which makes them more wearable. They are not for the faint of heart though, as in my experience the Mattene formula packs quite a punch, pigmentation-wise! I’m excited to see new paint pot shades, though I’m hopeful they won’t be quite as glittery as the more recent new paint pots. The frost finish has me a little nervous about that. The nail lacquers seem kinda thrown in the collection as an afterthought, but I’m sure they’ll be pretty.
