Review – mark. Mists

mark. has introduced 4 new fragrance mists to the line for summer. I’m not sure if they are limited edition though. I think it’s fairly safe to operate on the assumption they are. The 4 fragrances are watermelon, mango, tangerine, and peach. Each mist also contains hydrating real fruit extracts to soften and refresh the skin!

So what do I think? I got mango and peach. I love them both. My boyfriend is not wild about the mango; he says he detects a weird base note in the drydown. I don’t notice it though so I’ll still wear it. We both agree that the peach is a total winner though. It smells very much like a true peach. I do also notice the softening/soothing effect on the skin. That makes it very nice to spray one of these on after a shower or first thing in the morning as a wake-up.
Overall I would recommend these mists, but there are a few things I would change. The bottle feels kind of flimsy/cheap as opposed to really sturdy plastic. Also, they are kind of small for the price. They retail for $10 for a 3 oz bottle. Seems kind of steep for the usual mark. price point. However, I do know from personal experience that at least I can always expect good quality from mark. to justify paying a little more. I paid the rep price of $5 but I don’t know if I would have been willing to spend the $10 without already knowing how nice they are. Which is why it’s good that I’m here to tell you! :) One positive about the packaging though is the actual atomizing (spray) mechanism. It really gives a nice fine mist without any huge droplets.
Have you tried these? If so, what do you think?

Review – mark. Chic Duets Lipgloss

This new product from the mark. line will be available for purchase on 6/23. As always, please remember that usually the new products aren’t up on the website until mid-day. The Chic Duets are tube-within-a-tube glosses that contain both clear gloss and pigment.
Is it kind of gimmicky? Sure. But the colors are pretty, and the gloss itself is pretty nice. If you think mark.’s Juice Gems are too sticky, these are for you. If you like the “wet look” from a gloss, these are for you. The formula is not terribly sticky, verrrry wet-shine glossy, and doesn’t feel thick on the lips at all. The packaging is also kind of cool because of a new applicator mark. is trying out. It’s a longer, narrower slant-tipped applicator. It’s also plastic, for those of you who dislike the fuzzy slant tip on the Juice Gems (I hate it…it’s the only thing I don’t like about Juice Gems!).
mark. Chic Duets come in 4 sheer shades: Candy Fix (pictured), Sparks Fly, Halo Baby, and Awestruck. Sparks Fly is a mauvey, slightly darker shade than Candy Fix. Awestruck is a pretty basic pinky nudey color (not too brown), and Halo Baby is sheer gold. Be forewarned that you have to kinda ‘start’ these so the first squeeze or two may only result in clear gloss.
Chic Duets are watermelon scented (ick…I am one of the few people on the planet who hates watermelon anything) but if it’s bareable for me, you can handle it. They also seem to be slightly watermelon flavored, too? Or I might just be dreaming. Watermelon scents usually make me gaggy, but I was able to tolerate it. ;)
Sooo keep a look out for these to drop on 6/23! They will retail for $6 each.

mark. Salon Straight Smoothing Balm

Okay so as you guys know, I got a new hair cut fairly recently. I can wear it wavy as long as I blow dry my bangs first, but it really looks its best when I flat iron it. I had been toying with the idea of a smoothing balm, and since I get mark. really cheap with my awesome rep discount I decided to give their Salon Straight Smoothing Balm a whirl. Even if you aren’t a rep, this stuff always retails for only $5.
Now, since the balm has “invigorating orange” in it, you might expect it to smell like oranges. However, the Salon Straight line has a more cologney smell. It’s quite strong. It doesn’t bother me, and it doesn’t seem to last all day, but that’s something to consider if you might want to try this. If you know you’re very sensitive to fragrance, you might want to try something else. My boyfriend, who is far pickier about scents than I am, says that it’s not bad just that it doesn’t smell “girly”.
Moving right along. It says to apply to damp or dry hair with fingers or a comb, root to tip. I’m always really cautious against putting anything right at my roots because I have a very sensitive scalp, so I cheated a little. I just ran it through with my fingers and then combed it out a little to be more evenly distributed, and proceeded to blow dry my hair with a small round brush as usual.
The result? I wouldn’t say this stuff did any actual straightening to my hair, which is what it says it will do. The first words on the tube are “Want straight?” and it claims to make your hair stick straight. Well my crazy wavy Jewish girl hair did not get that memo. (Yeah, Jew fro? Not just for the boys…). It did however tame down any frizz I would ever have had from blow drying. I had a lot fewer flyaways. That was pretty nice. :)
The product also claims to be light weight. That part of the product I did notice. I have pretty fine hair (but a ton of it) and it did not feel especially weighed down or anything, despite the fact that I usually avoid leave-in anything altogether.
Really, I’d say this is a pretty decent product at a great price point if you are looking to de-frizz and sleek-ify your hair. Don’t expect it to do the work of your flat iron, but it’s a nice addition to the routine.
Have you tried this product? I’d love to know how it worked out if you have hair different from mine.

Review – mark. Make It Go Away Wipes

A makeup remover was a much-requested product by us mark. reps for a really long time. It was something that the mark. line really needed. Our requests have finally been answered with the Make It Go Away Makeup Removing Wipes.

These wipes come 30 to a pack and retail for $8.00. Each wipe is pretty decently sized and the package is small enough for a purse. They are free of artificial fragrance for those of us with sensitive skin. They have a very light sort of generic “clean” smell. After using, my skin feels refreshed. These would be great to keep in your locker or gym bag for after a work out.

I tested removing waterproof makeup with a wipe and it did remarkably well. I was impressed. I didn’t even have to rub much, which is nice because rubbing repeatedly on the delicate eye area can cause wrinkles and irritation. After cleansing with one of these wipes there was a teeny bit of a sticky feeling just until my skin dried. Once dry, no stickiness or residue whatsoever.

Overall these are a nice buy and I would definitely recommend them! If you’re interested, check out my mark e-boutique. :)

Take It Or Leave It

Riddle me this, readers…what do you think of this purse? It’s an upcoming item from mark. Do you agree with the caption that this bag is on trend and edgy? Or do you think it’s fugly? I can’t really decide if I like it or not. I absolutely love the grey, but…that is a lot of fringe.

So, what do you say?

Fugly or Fabulous? mark. Magalog Cover Art

What do you think of this mark. Magalog cover? This is the sneak peek cover for representatives, but the image will be the same once the actual Magalog launches next month. So far, opinions among the mark. reps are rather polarized. Personally I love it. I think the model’s eyes are positively enchanting. However it has gotten very mixed responses.

Review – Avon Look Alert Waste Of Time

Well. Um. They can’t all be winners I guess. But this product is downright useless. I tried Avon’s Look Alert brightener in illuminating pearl. I have just very slight darkness under my eyes when I don’t sleep enough. It’s nothing major. So what I’m trying to say is it’s not like this product has to be anything earth-shattering to get the job done on my eyes.

But it’s not even close. The end result when I put this on? SHINY darkness. I put it on over some concealer, but it made the concealer ball up and rub off. The result was shiny darkness under my eyes. Rad.

Not rad.

$3.99? Ok. But it’s not even worth that. It’s going back to Avon. This product is terrible. Don’t waste your time and money on it.

Spring 2009 Flip For It Palettes Are Here!

That’s right! They’re here! Los Angeles and Tokyo Flip For It palettes for Spring 2009. The colors are as follows:

Tokyo Palette

  • Cheek: Pink Kimono
  • Eye Shadows: Shinjuku, Plum Velvet
  • Lip Colors: Sake, Cherry Blossom, Ginza and Geisha

Yes the shade Plum Velvet is currently available as a single in the regular line, and I do own it already, but frankly I wouldn’t mind having it twice. It’s really gorgeous. :)

Los Angeles Palette

  • Cheek: Sunset Strip
  • Eye Shadows: Hollywood, Mulholland
  • Lip Colors: Melrose, Rodeo, Malibu and Beverly Hills

I’m a little confused about the LA palette because in the pics they call Hollywood a pale beigey shade. mark. used to have a matte brown eyeshadow called Hollywood, so I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be switched and the dark brown is really Hollywood and the beige is Mulholland, or of mark. is just recycling names.

Both of these palettes are available now at my mark. e-boutique (see logo @ right). They are $20 each. Right now there is a free shipping deal at my e-boutique with a $25+ purchase, too. So go look around and shop! Grab one of these awesome palettes. They are limited edition, so you should get ’em while you can.
