When I first became an Avon representative, I knew one of the first products I had to try – Avon Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil. I freely admit I was attracted to it because I always saw the Pixiwoo girls using it in their videos!
Sephora Bobbi To Go Palette
I’m taking a break from the Monday Mashup this week because I got SO excited when I saw this new Beauty Insider perk from Sephora! I typically do not cash in my points, but this new “Bobbi To Go” 500-point perk grabbed my attention so much that I made an order for cotton rounds ($4) in order to cash in my points and get this perk. Don’t judge me. I actually did need the cotton rounds, and with the Flash shipping it was worth it. ;)
The kit includes a mini palette, a sample of mascara, and a sample of eye cream. I haven’t tried the eye cream or mascara yet, but I had to dig into the palette the very next morning after it arrived!
Let me preface my thoughts & swatches with reminding you this is a Bobbi Brown palette. Bobbi Brown is not known for having bright, vivacious colors. I typically do my makeup pretty naturally, and I like Bobbi Brown. If you are more into Sugarpill, Urban Decay, etc. you probably wouldn’t be interested, but I really like my Bobbi! I have several of her other palettes.
Here she is. It’s definitely a mini – roughly the size of a credit card.
The palette contains 1 blush, 4 shadows, and 1 mini brush. The brush is kind of floppy and would be useful for blending but not placing shadow or forming shapes, in my opinion.
The blush color included is called Pale Pink. It’s from the regular core line and can be purchased in a full size for $25. Unlike the name would imply, it’s pretty bright!
The 4 shadows. They’re pretty tiny, but great neutral colors. Clockwise from the top right they are Heather Mauve Shimmerwash, Saddle, Mahogany, and Bone. All of them are available in the core line for $21 each, however Saddle is not yet available on Sephora’s website.
Here are the colors swatched. The Pale Pink blush is quite pigmented. Bone does have pigmentation but it pretty much matches my skin so you can barely see it right below Pale Pink. Heather Mauve shimmerwash is a shimmery taupe. Mahogany is a dark ashy brown. Saddle is a dark matte brown that also leans toward ashy rather than warm.
I’ll admit the mattes do not swatch well at all. They are kind of annoying in that way. However when working with them on the eye I kind of appreciate that you have to build the color up rather than it showing up full-throttle at first swipe. It gives you more control. Because of that though if you have a deeper skintone you probably would find these annoying. They’d take a lot of building and layering to show up with enough contrast. For pale-skinned me, however, it’s a plus.
Overall, I like this perk and I’m glad I got it. This is definitely a palette for someone who is already a Bobbi girl and knows what she is getting formula-wise. I look forward to trying the eye cream and mascara, and will certainly post reviews of those too.
Quickie Review – Gorgeous Cosmetics Lipstick in Pink Flip
I had the chance to meet one on one with Gorgeous Cosmetics at Cosmoprof, and they gave me a few of their products to try. The first of which is this lipstick in the shade Pink Flip.
I really like the packaging. It’s a square, shiny black tube with the Gorgeous logo in beige. The tube has some weight to it without being clunky – it feels solid high quality, which is important because this is a higher price point lipstick. The lipstick retails for $25, so you want there to be nice packaging!
Pink Flip is a very classic, creamy neutral pink. This is the kind of color that pretty much anyone could wear. It’s bright without being overstated, and has a cream finish – not flat matte but not overly shiny either. No frost or shimmer – yeee! :)
Gorgeous Cosmetics Lipstick in Pink Flip
Once applied, this lipstick feels great on my lips. It’s very creamy and comfortable, but doesn’t slip and slide around like the Color Whispers I tried yesterday. The pigmentation is really good too. I just put on a light coating of it in the photo above but I got very complete coverage.
If pink is your thing, I highly recommend this color. I really like it a lot and it will go with a lot of looks. If pink isn’t your thing, they have a huge shade range with everything from bright purples and orange to neutral nudes.
Gorgeous Cosmetics are available from their website, www.gorgeouscosmetics.com, but also from Nordstrom which is SUPER cool because you’ll get free shipping and you can use ebates! ;) If you’re a MUA, you should totes check out their pro program too, which includes a nice discount. More info at the Gorgeous website.
Maybelline Color Whisper Swatches & Review
In a world where drugstore brands were all competing to bring us moisturizing, pigmented color…
Okay so maybe that’s a little dramatic (you DID read it in the movie trailer voice, RIGHT?), but ok we got Revlon Lip Butters, L’Oreal Color Riche Balms, and Maybelline Color Whispers all one right after another. I LOVE Revlon Lip Butters. So I was really excited to try Maybelline Color Whispers too. So much so that when they went on sale at Ulta a while back, I got 6 of them. They were BOGO or BOGO 1/2 off or somethingorother. A lot of bloggers & youtubers seemed to really like these, so I was all excited.
You know what? They’re just okay. Revlon Lip Butters are way better, for me. One thing I do really like is the scent. They’re kind of a sugary lemony scent. Yum.
Here are swatches of the ones I have:
Maybelline Color Whisper in Cherry on Top
Maybelline Color Whisper in Coral Ambition
Maybelline Color Whisper in Go Nude
Maybelline Color Whisper in Mocha Muse
Maybelline Color Whisper in Orange Attitude
Maybelline Color Whisper in Pin Up Peach
I love that there are some brighter colors. However, due to the gel formula of these lipsticks, the bright colors remain pretty translucent, which means it’s hard to apply them completely evenly. My lips were slightly dry and irritated from all the swatching by the time I tried Orange Attitude and Cherry on Top, which you can see by the bit of unevenness visible on my upper lip.
The wear time on these is minimal since the formula has a ton of slip, which is another reason why some colors look slightly uneven — the product is moving around on your lips and settling.
The colors are pretty, but these aren’t a go-to or a must have product for me. I will keep and use the ones I have but I most likely won’t be purchasing any more of them, and I certainly gravitate more toward my Lip Butters than these. They retail for around $5-$6 each at drugstores and Ulta.
What do you think of these? They’ve been out for a while so I’m sure a lot of you have tried them! ;)
I’m going to go marinate my poor lips in some lip balm…
Covergirl Outlast Nail Polish
I was doing one of my favorite things…prowling a 24-hour drugstore at a strange hour of the day/night, and stumbled across the Covergirl nail polishes. I have known about them for a while but kind of ignored them. Except in this Walgreens, they were about at eye level. And there was a shade that would NOT be ignored…
April 2013 Julep Maven Box – It Girl
The April theme for Julep Maven boxes was brights, and boy did they deliver. I opted for the It Girl box this month and also added on the color Lena and the Rock Candy Glaze in Candy. The It Girl box included some actual rock candy in it, too. Cute touch. :)
China Glaze Hologlam Collection
I posted a sneak peek of the China Glaze Hologlam collection ages ago, and it’s one of the most popular posts on the blog of all time. Sooo I guess y’all like some HOLO POLISH! Well now that I have the collection in my hot little hands, here are some more pictures. Because who doesn’t love some good nail polish porn yeah?
J.Cat Beauty Fantabulous Lipstick Review & Swatches
If you haven’t heard of J.Cat Beauty, you’re not alone. This brand is pretty new to me, too! I was first introduced to J.Cat Beauty at IMATS LA just last month, and the brand itself only launched in 2012. Their booth was mobbed, and with good reason. J.Cat Beauty is a budget makeup line aimed at giving us great products at modest prices. So do they deliver? Let’s see. [Read more…]
Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Foundation First Impressions
I’ve mentioned that I absolutely love Make Up For Ever HD and Face & Body foundations. I love pretty much everything I’ve tried by MUFE actually…so naturally I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to try their latest addition to the MUFE foundation family – Pro Finish.
