ULTA is sending out those magical 20% off cards again! They’re good for 20% off almost anything in the store, including most of the prestige brands, with a few exceptions. The one going around right now exclude Lancome, Dermalogica, and Urban Decay, but if you’re going to take your coupon on a little haul, check out my recommendations!

Small Ulta Haul

Before I get into my haul post, I wanted to alert any fellow Orange County Ulta fans that there is a new location in Rancho Santa Margarita! I didn’t know about it until last night. Not sure when it opened exactly, but if any of you south county beauties don’t want to trek up to Newport or Tustin for your Ulta needs, you don’t have to!

Also, Ulta recently launched their new mobile site. As an iphone addict, I am very happy. I like the new site! What do you think?

And now the haulage..! This was just a little haul. What drew me in was the fact that their (Ulta Brand) Extreme Wear Gel Eyeliner is on sale. It’s normally $9 but right now it’s on sale for $3. I’ve had my eye on the dark green color, Dublin, for a while now. Depending on how I like it, I might go back for another color before the sale ends. If you want an inexpensive green though, Dublin is a gorgeous color! Observe:

But who can go into Ulta and just get one thing? Haha, actually I did have one other thing in mind to pick up:
Okay so a self tanner application mitt isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, but I’d been wanting one before I do any further experiments with self tanners after my last hand-related trauma. ;) I recently got a new tanner from Xen-Tan to try and I hope this mitt will help me out with that. It was only about $5, and it can be washed and used multiple times.
Ah yes! Impulse purchase #1 – OPI Silver Shatter. This polish doesn’t shatter in blocky chunks like the China Glaze crackles do, but more of a shredded, tarnished look. I swatched it over a bare nail, which doesn’t really give you the full effect, but I look forward to playing with it combined with other shades.
And impulse purchase #2 – this cute Butter London duo. For $15 you get their limited edition No More Waity Kaity shade and a mini bottle of their Powder Room acetone-free nail polish remover. The polishes are normally $14 each, so I thought for a buck extra I could get the remover + a polish I wanted anyway. I love Butter London polishes and this purple-griege is gorgeous. So far the only thing I can say about the polish remover is it’s heavily scented. Hea-vi-ly. It smells like baby powder, which to me is a vast improvement on the smell of nail polish remover in general (though I love Zoya Remove+). But if you’re sensitive to scents it’s not for you. Also, if you go to Ulta looking for this set, it’s up by the registers, not with the other nail stuff. ;)
There are a few other low-cost thrills I had meant to look for and completely forgot about (sometimes I just get crazy in stores like Ulta and lose my mind!), so I will probably end up going back again soon haha. If you’d like a review or more info on any of these items let me know!

Butter London Holiday 2010 Collection Has Both Sugar & Spice!

Polish fiend favorite Butter London is known for its 3 Free Nail Lacquers — Formaldehyde, Toluene, and DBP-free formulas that definitely don’t sacrifice color or creamy texture for the sake of being safe and eco-friendly. Wildly popular for its impressive selection of gorgeous on-trend colors that are loved by beauty mavens and designers alike (Betsey Johnson and Vena Cava are known for incorporating the line in their runway shows!), it’s pretty much a no-brainer that the brand would benefit from a Holiday collection! Especially in a season where deep forest green and festive cranberry red are already some of the hottest colors to experiment with right now, a cheery Christmas-themed collection is not only festive, but trendy to boot!

Sure, the colors may be predictable, but you can’t say they aren’t cohesive! The five-piece Holiday collection contains British Racing Green, Perfect Prezzie (burgundy with gold shimmer), Fairy Lights (rose pink), Pearly Queen (pearly white), and Knees Up (metallic red), and together make a line that shimmers and shines with holiday spirit! I’ve been dying to try a dark green on my own nails, so while I don’t usually fall head over heels for holiday collections, I may have to indulge in British Racing Green, which is the perfect hunter green shade that’s hot for any season, not just the holidays!

Ulta’s New Rewards Program

In my last Ulta circular they made a big reveal– a new ULTAmate Rewards program. The new program is effective July 1st for my area (so-cal). Apparently it has already rolled out in nor-cal. Other areas may not be changing over yet.  All previous reward program members are automatically enrolled, but they made no mention of if our points carry over so you might want to check on that. They also did not mention if the points will only be bankable for certain time periods. The previous program only had bank periods of approximately 3 months. I’m assuming the bank just carries over because the new program has some pretty hefty rewards for large point totals.

The biggest change to make note of is it is no longer $1/1 point. You now get 4 points for every $1 you spend. They also have specific events during which your purchases will earn you extra points. Certain items in the store will also earn you double or triple bonus points.

Each point level can now be redeemed for a $ amount off your next purchase or a salon service. The point levels are as follows: (value amounts are approximate for skin care services as prices may vary store-to-store)

500 points = $4 off your next purchase or Eye Rescue Treatment ($30 value)
1000 points = $9 off your next purchase or Signature Cut ($45 value)
2000 points = $20 off your next purchase or Dermalogica Skin Treatment ($55 value)
3000 points = $32 off your next purchase or Area Highlights ($70 value)
4000 points = $45 off your next purchase or Haircut/Style w/ Accent Highlights ($105 value)
7500 points = $100 off your next purchase OR signature cut, highlights, and dermalogica skin treatment ($160 value)

I’m all for this. I’d much rather get $4 off something I want than a free Maybelline Great Lash lol. The salon services are a much better deal than the $ off. I’ve gotten my hair done at Ulta before as well and was quite pleased with the work my stylist did for me. Frankly, I’d much rather spend my money at Ulta and get salon services and than spend them at Sephora because mostly their beauty insider gifts aren’t worth the $500 or whatever you had to spend to get them!

What do you think of the new program? Have you seen similar changes in your area?
