LA Times Bargain Beauty – Agree or Disagree?

The LA Times, with the assistance of makeup artist Craig Beaglehole (my apologies to Mr. Beaglehole as I’m sure you’re a perfectly nice man but that last name is so amusing) published an article about the best beauty finds in the drugstore. Here’s what they picked…

Mascara & Eyeliner
L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen mascara
Maybelline Lash Stiletto
Maybelline Pulse Perfection
Maybelline XXL Extensions
Maybelline Lash Discovery
Rimmel Glam’Eyes Lash Flirt
L’Oreal Voluminous
L’Oreal Panoramic Curl
Milani Easy Liner for Eyes in Black
CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus eyeliner in Black Onyx
Of those I haven’t tried very many, but voluminous smudged like crazy on me (need to try waterproof as I have heard wonderful raves about this mascara), and panoramic curl. Panoramic curl did virtually nothing for me. XXL Extensions mascara is fantastic and I have reviewed it. :) As to the eyeliners…really? That is the best you can do?? There are far better drugstore eyeliners out there, such as those from Prestige, Revlon, and L’Oreal.
Lip Color
CoverGirl Outlast Lipstains
L’Oreal Color Juice
CoverGirl WetSlick Fruit Spritzers
L’Oreal Color Riche lipsticks
L’Oreal Color Riche lip liners
Eh. I’m unimpressed. The lipstains are pretty awesome but the rest of those are just okay. And l’oreal, your lipsticks smell bad. I think there are a lot of much better drugstore lip products out there. For example, Max Factor Vivid Impact lipsticks, Revlon lipsticks, L’Oreal HiP lip glosses…the list goes on.
Eye Color
Milani Runway Eyes
Revlon Colorstay Quads
Milani Earthly Delights quad
Boots No. 7 Palettes
Eh. Those colorstay quads aren’t that good. The milani stuff is just “ok”. I haven’t tried Boots, myself. I think there are better/just as good drugstore eyeshadows that didn’t get a mention. Example– Maybelline quads.
Blush/Bronzer/Highlighter– stuff for your cheeks
Prestige Skin Loving Minerals
Maybelline ExpertWear in Gentle Rose
CoverGirl TruCheeks
Revlon Matte in Perfectly Peach
CoverGirl/Olay Simply Ageless in Plush Peach
Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Rose Petal
These look nice except they’re all really fair shades. Great if you’re a pasty white girl like me but all of you deeper skinned mamas will be disappointed with these, I think.
Foundation
Neutrogena Mineral Sheers
L’Oreal True Match
Maybelline Mineral Power (liquid)
Revlon Beyond Natural Skin Matching Makeup
Okay that last one is such a gimmick. Do not want. Mineral Power was okay but I couldn’t get a color match. And True Match gave me cystic acne. Sooo yeah.
Notice how they don’t mention drugstore concealers? Interesting. Weird.
What do you think of the LA Times’ choices?
