This is kind of a spinoff of those “what’s in your bag?” type posts. I have seen a lot of room tours, bathroom tours, etc. on youtube and that inspired this post too. Anyone can use a product once or twice (or even for a week) and tell you how great it is, but what takes up permanent residence in the shower tells a lot about how much you like it. ;) My shower is just that– a shower only. There’s no bathtub, so there’s no lip around it with room to store a ton of stuff. We have one of those tiered shower tower thingies (lifesaver!) and that’s it. “Real estate” in my shower is at a premium! Only the best stuff gets to stay! And of course, boyfriend gets only one ‘tier’ while my crap takes up 2 or sometimes 3 if I have review stuff hanging out in there. It’s a part of life. We’re girls. We like stuff. Men just have to learn to deal with it.
What’s in My Shower…
Hair Stuff
Organix Nutritional Acai Berry Avocado Shampoo
This stuff is fan-freakin-tastic. Seriously. I checked out the reviews on MakeupAlley after I bought it, and they’re not that great. However, I love this shampoo. Organix is a line I don’t hear a lot about, and I’m surprised. The shampoo is sulfate free and paraben free, and just $7 or so. It’s available at CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta. It also contains argan oil and my hair loves it. If you’re looking for a new cheap shampoo, go grab this one. I have enough left for just about one more use and then my bottle is going in the recycle bin. I can’t remember the last time I used a shampoo up without getting bored, switching to something else, and coming back to it later.
Organix Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng Conditioner
Unfortunately this conditioner isn’t as much of a hit as the shampoo. It’s just not quite enough moisture for my hair sometimes. I’m almost done with the bottle and I probably won’t be repurchasing. I can definitely see myself buying the shampoo again, but this conditioner is just okay. It has a pleasant smell and works well enough for me to finish the bottle but that’s about it.
Sunsilk Hydra TLC Multi-Symptom Masque
This product is discontinued. However, I bought out all the jars I could find at Big Lots for $2-3 each, so I have enough to last me a very long time. It’s a hydrating mask with keratin protein, and my absolute top favorite deep conditioner. My hair never feels greasy or weighed down after using it, just soft and shiny. It’s very heavily scented but I love the scent (and surprisingly so does my boyfriend– he hates everything!) so it doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve used up 2 jars of this already and I have several hidden away haha. If you come across this at a Big Lots or something similar, don’t ask questions just buy it.
Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo
Daily? Uh more like bi-monthly. I do not need to clarify my hair very often. I don’t use much product in it, so I don’t get a whole lot of build up. It’s just a once in a while thing for me. You don’t need to spend a whole lot of money on a clarifying shampoo, really. I got the huge bottle of Suave for a dollar or so, and since I don’t use it very much it lasts a very long time. I’m on my second bottle of it though because I’ve been using it for ages. Available at nearly any drugstore, I heartily recommend this as a great option for a clarifying shampoo!
I also keep a shower comb like this one in my shower for distributing conditioner and stuff like that. The little ‘nubs’ on the end of each tooth of the comb give a really nice scalp massage, too. It’s funny I had been meaning to buy one of these for ages and never did even though they’re about $1.50, haha. Worth it just for the massaging aspect. Scalp massage is so good for you too! It stimulates the hair follicles and whatnot.
Body Stuff
Don’t you love my technical terminology?
Bath & Body Works Dark Kiss Shower Gel
I’ve been using this in order to review it for Beauty Debutante and oh my gosh, yum! This scent is a complicated little thing. Very complex and mysterious. I love Bath & Body Works shower gels. They lather so nicely and feel so smooth. I use it with a little lather poof I got from the dollar section at Target. The cutest part? The poof is purple so it matches the shower gel! Adorable, I know. lol. Hey, I get excited about the simple things.
Bath & Body Works Body Scrub in Warm Vanilla Sugar
Um, anyone know what’s going on with Bath & Body Works and their body scrubs? They had a really amazing body scrub in a tube that I used up completely (also in Warm Vanilla Sugar) and when I went back for more it had been discontinued. So I got what was a newly formulated version of the same thing in a tub. It’s thicker and I really like it, but it was on sale 50% off and now it’s not on their website either. In fact, there’s very little in the way of body scrubs on their site. Are they reformulating again? Here is an ebay listing for the scrub I’m talking about so you can see what product I’m referring to. Hopefully by the time I use up this massive jar B&BW has come out with whatever they will be offering to replace it, because I love their scrubs. I know there are other scrubs out there, but I like the consistency from B&BW. I can find a scent I love and go buy it again and again and I’ll know what I’m getting. I’m funny that way. ;)
Kiss My Face Moisture Shave
This is my holy grail shaving product, hands down. You’ve probably seen me raving about it before. I know G over at Nouveau Cheap is a fan too. KMF Moisture Shave literally changed my life. It’s the only thing I’ve ever used that completely eliminated razor burn from the equation. If you have ever suffered the discomfort of razor burn you can just imagine how awesome that is to say. It comes in a variety of scents (and an unscented version that is popular with the menfolk). My favorite is Peaches & Cream. It’s the most realistic peach scent I’ve ever smelled in a body product! I buy this in bulk from Amazon but you can find it in CVS (I think), Target, and most health food stores like Trader Joes and Whole Foods. I’ve used several bottles of this and will continue to use it because I have six more bottles, lol. I ordered a 4-pack from Amazon but when it arrived there were only 3. I asked if they could send me the remaining 4th bottle but they said they can’t split up the packs so they sent me another 4-pack giving me 7 bottles. Wee! I’ll be happily smooth-legged and peachy-smelling until 2012, lol.
Venus Embrace Razor
I LOVE this thing. It has 5 blades, a cushy gel-covered handle, and I get an incredibly smooth shave with it. That’s about all I can say really. I’ve been using the Embrace for a while now and it’s love. Recently I had to use a blade left over from my Venus Divine (only 3 blades) and I hated it. I used to love the Venus Divine! But now I’m spoiled with my 5 blades of pure goodness. I guess there’s no going back now!
Face Stuff
Clarisonic Pro
It’s water-resistant and totally fine to use in the shower, so whenever mine is not in its charging cradle I keep it in my shower. I sometimes use it outside of the shower but that’s where I keep it since 9 times outta 10 that is where I use it. My skin has been really clear lately and I attribute it partially to using the Clarisonic. I’m not terribly acne prone (except for hormonal breakouts, yuck) but I do have a tendency to get really congested pores in my t-zone, which the Clarisonic helps to eliminate. My other skin-related worry is the hyperpigmentation left behind from past breakouts, and exfoliation is key to helping my skin’s natural production and cell turnover move along to heal that.
mark. That’s Deep Purifying Gel Cleanser
This is the cleanser I use with my Clarisonic right now. mark.’s skin care is really nice overall and That’s Deep is no exception. The line is based on the concept of super fruits and super foods and harnessing the powers of natural ingredients for great skin. That’s Deep contains sugar maple (a natural source of Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and black willow bark (natural source of Beta Hydroxy Acid). My skin feels thoroughly cleansed but not stripped, and because of the Clarisonic it feels oh so smooth and soft. This cleanser is available in my mark e-boutique for just $8.
Neutrogena Acne Stress Control Power-Clear Scrub
I’m taking a break from this product right now but it’s still hanging out in my shower, haha. It’s a much beloved facial scrub with BHA (salicylic acid) as well as calming cucumber extract. Don’t get me wrong, I still swear by this cleanser, but it’s more when I’m breaking out that I reach for this. If you have a problem with breakouts I really recommend this. It smells nice (cucumbery) and it really works great on acneic skin. This is my third tube of it!
MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask
Remember this? It came out with the Style Black collection last year. I have a bunch of it stockpiled because the volcanic ash products are my favorite things MAC has ever released, skincare-wise. I feel like the steam of the shower and everything creates the perfect environment for using a mask that helps clear out pores. You really can only wear this for about five minutes or it will irritate your skin, and that’s just enough time to do something else in the shower before you rinse it off. This is discontinued but you might be able to find it at outlets or on the evilbay.
So that’s pretty much it, product-wise. I also have a Chanel wash cloth. It’s the softest, prettiest wash cloth ever. I like how luxurious it looks to have a washcloth that says CHANEL BEAUTE on it haha. It’s just plain white with black trim and black writing and it came with a cleanser I got. I don’t even know where you would get one if you wanted to buy one! I wish I knew because I want more of them. =X If you know, please leave a comment!
So there you have it…that’s what’s in my shower. Oh, well, there’s also cat shampoo. I bathed my cat recently. Hopefully that gave you some good ideas if you’re looking for new products to try (or avoid), or satisfied any insane stalkerish desire you have to know what’s in other people’s showers. Just don’t like track me down and kill me because that kind of stalking isn’t cool.
