Can’t Catch A Break

Hey all,

Sorry I’ve been totally lame at updating lately. Just dropping in to let you all know what’s up with me. Stay tuned for a few more posts as I like to keep things separate by topic.

* Face healed up just fine from my little facial debacle. ;) I just didn’t wear makeup for a few days afterward (I know, I know…it hurt) to let it kinda chill out. In my experience that’s always the best thing to do after something like that happens.

* On the 11th I went in for a ton of dental work. Root canal, wisdom tooth out…the works. And it’s not even finished. My mouth/face has been pretty sore. I haven’t been wearing that much makeup since, although I did try out some new stuff I am going to tell you about in my next post.

On a totally random note, aloe, lip balm, and mark. Electrolights lipgloss all used together are a really great treatment for a burned lip. My lip got burned during the dental work. Ouch. The mark gloss is chock full of vitamins and very thick and moisturizing. It’s discontinued but easy to find cheaply on Ebay.

A new feature has been added to the blog. It’s purely just for amusement, and may only rarely have to do with makeup, but it’s my Twitter feed. It’s the cute little pink box to the right and down a little. If you aren’t familiar with Twitter it’s like a blog for 1-liners. You can follow friends’ Twitters and respond to them too. It’s way cool. Check it out! :)

When You’re Not Feeling So Lovely

This post is inspired by this past weekend when I took myself a little trip to the emergency room. Leave it to a beauty freak to be inspired to write based on that, right? I’ve spent the last few days feeling pretty crappy and not feeling too motivated to get pretty. And to make matters worse, a blemish has sprouted on my face in the midst of all this.

What’s a girl to do? When I’m feeling down in the dumps, it’s important that I take time to take care! I like to do the following things…

Get a little “pick me up”. This time around it was new underwear. There’s just something refreshing about new panties, isn’t there ladies? And a pretty new bra? My body has been rebelling against me so I’m not so fond of it right now, but putting on cute new underthings helps improve that thinking.

Take a bath. Baths are soothing as well as relaxing. They’re also a good opportunity to do a nice envigorating body scrub, or use bath salts with essential oils that will make my skin feel great. Afterwards, I lather up in my favorite lotion.

Take care of my hair. Beautiful hair can make any girl feel like a princess, so when I feel lousy I like to make sure to use my Sunsilk HydraTLC masque on my hair.

Put on a happy face. Masking, oh masking. I love facial masks as you know, and peel-off masks are especially entertaining. Yeah, I was that kid peeling the dried Elmer’s glue off of my hands, too. Hey– that removes splinters! ;)

Rest my skin. Okay, I feel like crud. I deserve to be as comfortable as possible. So, believe it or not, I have been known to go out without foundation or cover-up when I feel sick. You’d think that would make me feel worse, right? But it’s kind of freeing to just not give a shit about that sometimes. Today I wore only mascara and lipsick to work. Well, okay, I filled in my brows too. But that’s a given. The bonus is that in addition to the extra time in the morning I had to press the snooze, my skin got a break.

Hopefully these little tips help you out. I’m starting to perk up already.

Also, I have to tell you all…when I was in the ER, there were some tears shed. My mark. Make It Big mascara did NOT budge at all. And neither did MAC Fluidline in Nightfish. The NYC eyeliner on my waterline was somewhat rubbed off but actually a fair amount of that stayed on for the ordeal, too!

Mail Call

I forgot to mention a swap package that came today. I received MAC Sequin lipstick. Quite pretty! It’s a frost formula, which can be kind of drying on the lips but I always wear balm with lipstick no matter what! And with most lipglosses too. It’s just the way to go if you want to keep your lips nice. MAC describes Sequin as “muted plum-pink with pink shimmer”. I get a lot more plum that pink with this. It’s like Stila Darcy if you’re at all familiar, only with a definite pink undertone. And as usual the MAC swatch is awful, so don’t bother looking there for a picture.

What’s In The Mail?

A fun topic of discussion is “what’s in the mail”. So here’s what I’m waiting for…

Swaps:

MAC Slimshine lipstick in Long Stem Rose
Milani Double Impact Blush in Coffee N Cream (not sure this will work for me actually, but wanted to try it)
Flirt! Flirtatious fragrance
MAC Patternmaker warm eyes palette – coming all the way from Singapore!

RAOKs: (gifts!)

Stila eye concealer in Bare
MAC lipstick in Strawberry Blonde

Purchases:

A Pout Air Brush all the way from the UK. Thank god for Ebay. Not sure when it is arriving yet. I just bought it last night and the seller hasn’t shipped it yet. Plus it is coming from overseas, so there’s no way of knowing exactly how long it will take.

A mark. order! Not a lot of makeup. It’s got Pro Bronze Powder (going to try to contour with it), a blending brush, and an eyeshadow brush. Then a couple perfumes (!!) and my pre-style protector for my hair that I really am quite enamoured with. I have very little left so it was time to re-order. The brushes were purely a whim purchase; they’re like $3 with my mark rep discount and I had wanted some more eye brushes. The perfumes are mark. Pure and mark. Instant Vacation Caribbean. The Caribbean perfume is supposed to be kind of mango-y. Yum! Pure is supposed to be a clean, soap-inspired smell. Interesting. I can’t wait! That all arrives on Wednesday.
