…And We’re Back!

As I tweeted earlier today, sometimes you just really need to take a break from blogging. For me, I needed a little “peace out” from blogging & the beauty community in general for a few reasons, some are not really appropriate for a public setting like the blog, but some are and they’re GOOD reasons! :)

I let you all know at the beginning of August that I was no longer working on Caboodles and that my contract was ended with the agency I was working with, thus putting me out on the job market again. Well, shortly after my birthday (which was 8/22), I got a call from an agency I’d been talking to for a few weeks offering me a job! I started right away, and it has been keeping me very busy and happy. I’m no longer working on a beauty client, which some may see as a sad thing. However, I have mixed feelings about it.

Ever since I got into marketing and PR I wanted to find a way to combine my hobby/love/passion for beauty with my passion for marketing and social media. But my experience with Caboodles helped me realize there are negatives with your job being in the category you love. I found that since I was SO immersed in beauty-related stuff all day at work, I was too over-saturated to have much enthusiasm for it once I got home and had products to swatch, etc. Also, when you’re doing what you love but having to do it for someone else and subject to someone else’s approval, it gets tough! Imagine if someone took over your blog suddenly and started telling you how and what to write – that’s kind of like how it was. It’s neither a good nor bad thing; it’s just how it is. One of my favorite things about being a blogger is this blog is 100% me. It’s my brand, and it’s an extension of myself.

I’m really excited for the future. My new accounts should be familiar names to most of you – Crystal Light and Country Time. I’m working from home, which is amazing, and really enjoy doing what I do. I’m able to do social media and enjoy my career while at the same time I will still have beauty and style as my refuge for “fun time”.

This was long. If you made it all the way through, hat’s off to you! If anyone has any questions about my job or whatever feel free to comment or hit me up on the twitter. ;) xx

Battling Beauty Doldrums

I think we’ve all run into times when we’ve had a bit of a rut in our beauty routine. Sometimes you just get bored. Or maybe you get boring. But never fear! I have some tips on battling beauty boredom (if you get really bored, try saying that 10x fast…)
Problem: I wear the same makeup every single day even though I have a ton of it.
Hey, we get into our comfy habits. Time to shake things up a little! First, start by making sure everything is put away. Sometimes I just grab whatever’s out and that’s what I use. So start with a clean slate. Then grab a couple items in each ‘category’ (eyes, lips, etc) that you have NOT been using lately. Set those out. Use those for a few days. If you discover you’re not enjoying a particular item, time to part with it. After a certain amount of time, switch the items out for other ones.
Problem: I don’t have TIME for makeup anymore!
Slapping on a little makeup before you start your day doesn’t have to take very long. Set aside your essential, die-without-them items – for me, that’s concealer, powder, some kind of blush. It might vary for you. Some gals won’t leave the house without mascara. Keep these in a prominent place. Set your alarm and wake up 5 minutes early. All it takes is about 5 minutes to apply a couple things, and if you already have them all in one place it’s even easier. Then, the last step – grab a lipcolor. You can make yourself look a lot more ‘done up’ than you really are by doing a simple plain face and a bold lip.
Problem: I’m just not inspired.
Hey, all creative people lose their creative mojo every once and a while. Try checking out a makeup book you haven’t looked at before (or haven’t looked at in a long time), or cruise youtube for ideas. Or, watch a movie with lots of different makeup looks in it. One no one ever mentions– Speed Racer. The gals in this movie all have really cool makeup. Really! Shows like American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance often have really neat inspiring makeup looks too.
Problem: I’m tired of all the stuff in my stash!
First of all, weed out the stuff you absolutely won’t use anymore and swap/sell/give/throw it away. Clutter can be very overwhelming in any arena, but especially your makeup stash! Then, read reviews of the items you have. Most of the time when I’m reading reviews, I find some new use or technique that I didn’t know about or think of. It’ll give you new things to try with the stuff you already have. Or of course, you could always pop off to Sephora and buy yourself a new pretty… ;)
Problem: I’m just lazy. I have other stuff to do.
Taking a break is fine too. No one says you have to be a beauty addict all the time. Sometimes I become a lot more interested in other things, but I come back to makeup. ;) I sometimes go on nail polish kicks where maybe I won’t wear any makeup but my manicures are flawless. Whatevs. It’s a hobby, it’s fun. Enjoy.
Another solution I have for when I get bored with my beauty routine is to get my hair cut or colored. It’s super fun to change your look up in that way, but it’s only for the very bold since if you hate it, it does take time to go back to the way it was!
What ways have you battled beauty boredom?? Share in the comments. :)

Blogger Tag – This or That

Sometimes I like doing these silly or fun posts as a break from all of the informative yadda yadda. :P This particular tag I got from FabDiva20. I would really love to see your answers! If you’ve done this tag or you decide to copy it and do it on your blog after reading this, link me!! And if you don’t have a blog feel free to put your answers in a comment. <3

MAKEUP:
blush or bronzer –  I don’t always wear bronzer, but blush is a necessity!
lip gloss or lipstick – Really depends on my mood. I like both. :) But rarely both at the same time.
eye liner or mascara – Mascara. I skip eyeliner often.
foundation or concealer – Foundation. It covers most of everything and I don’t get too hung up on a few spots showing through a little day-to-day.
neutral or color eye shadow – I like to experiment with color but I’m a neutrals girl at heart.
pressed or loose eye shadows – pressed, even though I have some loose ones that are really nice. Too lazy!
brushes or sponges – Most of the time brushes, but for foundation I’ll stick with my sponges thanks!

NAILS:
OPI or china glaze – Don’t make me choose! Love them BOTH!
Long or short – short
Acrylic or natural – natural
Brights or dark – psh, both. at the same time even?
Flower or no flower – well right now I have polka dots so it would seem awfully judgmental to say no flowers…hahaha…

BODY:
perfume or body splash – I usually say perfume but I just got the most yummy body splash that I’m going to use like crazy – Winter Candy Apple from B&BW
lotion or body butter – usually lotion is plenty, but I love body butter for my hands and feet!
body wash or soap – Body wash all the way.
lush or other bath company – I’m more of a Bath & Body Works kinda girl

FASHION:
jeans or sweat pants – Jeans if I’m leaving the house. Sweat pants for lounging at home.
long sleeve or short – short usually. Although actually I really like 3/4 sleeves.
dresses or skirts – BOTH. I love them.
stripes or plaid – stripes for clothes, plaid for accessories
flip flops or sandals – flip flops. I have a gazillion pairs of the old navy ones.
scarves or hats – hats!! I love hats. I think it’s in my genes. My grandpa collects hats.
studs or dangly earrings – studs usually. if I remember to wear earrings in the first place. I have very sensitive ears and sometimes the weight of even the lightest danglies gets them angry with me.
necklaces or bracelets – necklaces just because I don’t have many bracelets.
heels or flats – Flats usually but I like heels too.
cowboy boots or riding boots – Being a former equestrian, wearing riding boots as fashion weirds me out. I suppose if I were a cowboy I’d feel the same way about cowboy boots haha, but between the 2 I choose cowboy boots for my fashion. :)
jacket or hoodie – hoodie is all I really need here in so-cal.
forever 21 or charlotte russe – Forever 21 for their cheap as heck prices and occasional plus size clothing gem.
abercombie or Hollister – Don’t shop at either one, so I couldn’t tell ya. Um, I guess Abercrombie for the hot models that stand around in the foyer at the mall on the weekends. YOW!
saks 5th or nordstrom – Nordstrom!!!

HAIR:
curly or straight – straight
bun or ponytail – my hair is still kinda short so I call it a “pony nubbin”. Usually easier to just tuck it into a “bun” of sorts.
bobby pins or butterfly clips – I don’t really use either one because uh, I can’t really figure bobby pins out they always look stupid. And butterfly clips remind me of 7th grade. I had a ton of little butterfly shaped clippies I would put in my hair all the time and felt very cool. ;)
hair spray or gel – hair spray, though I’m VERY picky about what hair spray I use!! Favorites are Bumble & Bumble and Fekkai.
long or short – Trying to have long hair!!! :)
light or dark – dark.
side sweep bangs or full bangs – I have overgrown full bangs right now. Thinking of trying side bangs next.
up or down – usually up just to get it outta my way

RANDOM:
Rain or shine – rain!
Summer or winter – winter!
Fall or spring – fall!
Chocolate or vanilla – chocolate
East coast or west coast – I guess since I live on the west coast I have to say west coast ;)
