New Stila on the Horizon

I’m getting little tidbits about upcoming products from Stila!

At the end of this month, they will expand their lip & cheek stain line to include an Acai flavor/shade.

Next spring, a new eye primer called Prime Pot debuts. It will be in multiple shades. I spied this included in the face chart from the Whitney Eve show at New York Fashion Week!

Are you excited about the new Stila goodies?

Stila Road to Radiance Palette

Ever since Stila announced their series of $10 travel palettes, I’ve been very excited about them. Then when I saw that the first travel palette would be in shades of pinks and purples, I was ecstatic. Stila + inexpensive palette + pink and purple. Um, could something be more made for me? Don’t think so. I got the very last Road to Radiance palette at my local Ulta! They had to check in the back for me, haha. I was like “GIMME!” I knew I had to have it. So lets take a closer look!

I’m so glad Stila has gone back to packaging similar to the vintage Stila we know and love with the Stila Girl illustrations. They’re so cute! This palette is pretty small, but at $10 it’s still an amazing value. Here it is pictured next to a MAC lipglass for size reference:
Am I going straight to hell for mixing my brands here? :)

Each travel palette contains 4 shadows and one convertible color, which can be used on both cheeks and lips. The shades in this palette are all new shades! And just so you don’t forget which is which, they include labels on the back of the palette:
I color-adjusted these photos to get the colors to be as true to life as possible.

Stila shadows in Snow Bunny, Valley Girl, Southern Belle, and City Chick. (R to L, T to B)
Stila Convertible Color in Hibiscus
I think the new shadows are really pretty, but the CC in Hibiscus is what really steals the show for me. It’s (I think) their prettiest CC to date. And it’s not available anywhere else but in this palette! I’m already arranging a swap for a back-up, lol. All of the products in the Road to Radiance palette are soft, sheer, but buildable depending on what kind of look you are going for. These colors look stunning on cool-toned complexions and the purples make green eyes pop! I probably couldn’t have asked for a better palette if I’d been able to tailor one myself.
What do you think? Does the Road to Radiance palette tickle your fancy?

Stila Pro Artist Program

Did you know that Stila has a pro artist program, similar to MAC’s pro discount program? Until now it has only been available at stores. Since Stila’s stores closed, it was only available to use via telephone order or at Fred Segal in LA. Not the most convenient pro discount. I mean, I can’t even afford parking at Fred Segal, for crying out loud. :P
However, I found out at IMATS that Stila’s pro artist program is now available on stilacosmetics.com! So cool! Like most pro discount programs you are required to furnish proof of your pro status by providing two credentials such as a business card, tear sheet, masthead, professional letter of recommendation, etc. But the discount is up to 40% your favorite Stila goodies! So if you’re a professional, you should definitely check it out. Many professions qualify, including makeup artists, hair stylists, models, beauty editors, and more.
For more information and to register, check out www.stilacosmetics.com/proartists. If you already have a card through their previous program, have it handy when you register so that you can link your online account to your current pro card.

Stila Smudgepots…in a Stick?

Stila Smudge Pots have always been a favorite eyeliner of mine. They are fantastic gel/cream eyeliners. They glide on smoothly and once they set, don’t budge. At all.

Stila has expanded their eyeliner range this summer to include new Smudge Sticks, which are basically Smudge Pots in a pencil– and waterproof. AWESOME.

Stila Smudge Sticks debut in 8 waterproof shades:
  • Stingray – Black
  • Lionfish – Brown w/ Shimmer
  • Purple Tang – Purple w/ Shimmer
  • Moray – Olive w/ Shimmer
  • Koi – Metallic Gold
  • Silver Dollar – Metallic Silver
  • Peacock – Cobalt Blue
  • Blue Ribbon – Navy Grey

Overall these look and sound great. I just wish they’d stuck with the fish naming scheme for all of them, because that is so cute! If I were in charge over at the Stila Naming Stuff department, Silver Dollar would be called Marlin, Blue Ribbon would be Bluefin, and Peacock would be Damselfish.

What do you think? Will you be picking these up? They retail for $20 just like their potted counterparts at stilacosmetics.com.

Favorites

I don’t think I really did a November favorites post. Oops. But I’ll just talk about some stuff that is my favorite right now. Because does the month part really matter? Nah.

LIPS

My favorite lipstuff definitely changes a lot, but I can tell you for sure one thing I am loving for lips right now is Philosophy’s Kiss Me balm in pink. I got it in Sephora’s deal that they had online for like, a minute that had the balm with 2 mini bath items for $5. But if you want it, you’ll have to go to Philosophy’s website because I don’t see it on Sephora, and it will cost you $12. Philosophy says they created this with someone in mind who is looking for the ultimate lip balm. I think they did a bang-up job. It’s very VERY moisturizing, refreshingly minty (without being tingly-burny), not at all sticky, and long-lasting. The pink shade imparts a tiny hint of color for a perfectly natural look. Kiss Me is also available in clear and red. I’d love to try the red!

I’m also loving and adoring all of my Stila lip glazes! Admittedly I have a ton of these, but they’re kind of addicting. They have pretty colors, fun scents (foody scents! yum!) and I may get flack for this but I love the click pen packaging! Click pens get a lot of hate because apparently some people have problems using them, like that too much (or not enough) product comes out, they leak, whatever. I have never had those problems (knock on wood) with my dozens of click pens I’ve played with over the years. Maybe I am magical. Maybe I am a sort of Click Pen Whisperer or something and they just obey me. I don’t know.

EYES

I am currently having a torrid love affair. With an eyeshadow palette. The NARS Pleasures of Paris palette, actually. This little beauty is 6 shadows of pure love. They’re very easy to wear neutrals. I am literally wearing this palette every other day, it seems. It’s available on the NARS website. It’s limited edition, so hurry if you want it. The shades in the top row of the palette (L to R) are Nepal, Violetta, and Demon Lover. On the bottom row there are Fez, Abyssinia, and Cordura. I’m not a diehard NARS fan (I only have this palette and one other, the Best of NARS palette), but I recognize awesome eyeshadow when I see it and this is a great versatile palette.

FACE

Run, don’t walk (or just open another tab) over to Meow Cosmetics. I am obsessing over the LUSH Blushes! Specifically Warm & Fuzzy, the soft peachy shade. It’s simply gorgeous and natural on, and goes with pretty much anything. Meow offers baggie samples for just $1, so you should go give it a whirl. Try the other lush blushes too! There isn’t one I don’t like.

Well, that’s what I’m really loving right now. Have you tried any of these? Do you love ’em?

Stila Warehouse Sale December 09

The Stila Warehouse Sale is BACK!

Where: 1161 Vine St. Hollywood CA
Discount: 50 – 80% off retail prices
$600 spending limit per customer. Cash & Major Credit Cards accepted.
Tips from a Stila Warehouse Sale veteran…
– Get there EARLY. There will be a line at the door before 8 am. Might be wise to bring an ipod or something to read as you may be waiting a while. They typically only allow a group into the sale at a time so it isn’t chaos.
– Wear sunscreen. Even though it’s December, if you’re standing around outside on a sunny day you can get burned.
– Bring breakfast. Stop at Starbucks first, get something warm, and sit tight. Sucker in Bring a friend to keep you company.
– Do not bring your giant purse. In fact, don’t bring any purse. Stuff your necessary cash or plastic into a pocket. Purses aren’t allowed inside.
– When offered, do take a plastic bag.
– Do not push, shove, kick, bite, pull hair of, scratch, etc. other people to get the makeup you want. :)
– Be nice to the Stila staffers (especially the guy at the door!); it’s a really long day for them!
What I Have Seen in the Past…

– Brushes at ridiculous discounts ($5 each…? yes please.)
– Palettes at amazing discounts, including discontinued palettes.

…and much more. :) Yes some of the things are discontinued items, and other things are recent items.
Will you be checking out the Stila Warehouse Sale? Let me know so we can meet up!
If you’re in the Orange County area and you want to car pool, let me know!

What’s New in Makeup…

Stila’s much-awaited Lip Enamels have finally arrived. These are opaque, long-lasting lip colors and they look gorgeous. Check them out at Stila’s website. Also be sure to check out their “vintage” section, where Major Lash mascara is a measly $5.

MAC’s In High Def collection has launched today. But does anyone care? This collection is a bit of a yawn and a bit of a “why bother” for me. There are 4 new lipstick shades, but other than that it is just promoting products already in the MAC line– Face & Body foundation, Mineralize Skin Finish Natural, and the 187/188 brushes. Yawn. If you’re curious about the lipcolors, they are:
Resolutely Red – Deepened claret (Lustre)
Close to Real – Light neutral peach pink (Lustre)
High Def – Midtone neutral coral (Amplified)
Sharp Focus – Deep brown plum (Lustre)
I’m not terribly interested, although since I have some back 2 MAC empties I might check out that peach pink shade. I’m a peachy pink addict anyway. And it would be free, so why not?
Ulta has been adding a lot of new brands to its repetoire lately, which makes me very happy. Recent new additions (wow I almost typed this as “addictions”– how telling!) include Korres, Mario Badescu, Bliss, and now the newest addition: Philosophy! Awesome! Ulta has a special for this weekend where you can get free shipping on any Philosophy purchase, too. Code: 36077. They’ll also throw in a sample of Unconditional Love fragrance!
Urban Decay is at it again, outdoing themselves every time with each new launch. Urban Decay doesn’t screw around with launching new products. There are some amazing new things available. Here’s what they’ve cooked up this time…
New 24/7 liner sets! Stereophonic and Hi-Fi. These are extra special because they contain a glitter liner in each set, and there are 2 new *exclusive* colors: Crash (deep plum) and Mildew (deep green).
And the 24/7 SUPER STASH. Oh lordy lordy I need this. It contains 9 mini 24/7 liners including some new shades: Corrupt (brown sparkle), Binge (navy), El Dorado (gold), and Oil Slick (black sparkle).
There is also a new palette – the Show Pony, and new Smoke Out kits that include all you need for sultry smoky eyes looks in a variety of colors.
P.S. did you Urban Decay junkies see that Rachel on Glee was holding a De-Slick compact in the scene by the lockers? I’m such a fanatic…

Stila in the Drugstore?

How exciting! In a recent interview, Lynn Tilton (the new CEO of Stila) shared some of her plans for the brand.

In the future of Stila goodness we can expect a lot more infomercial type sales, like through HSN/QVC etc. where they will really teach you how to use the products– cool!
But the biggest announcement of Lynn’s interview was her plan to introduce a drugstore sister brand to Stila called Simply Stila. She envisions prices starting at around $7.99 for each product.
My initial thought is that sister brand is an awesome idea. However, you can still get “real” Stila for prices that low in a lot of instances on ebay, at TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack, and through websites such as Beautycrunch and ACW. But then again, drugstore makeup goes BOGO– the magic word. :) No matter what though, I am excited to see what happens with this.
